Stone Theatres Exclusive Large Format Concept: PDX
More than likely, (unless you live in a cave) by now you most certainly have heard of brand names IMAX, Real D, RPX or various other names used to describe the large format experience. These are all branded names given to the concept of LARGE FORMAT SCREENS, ENHANCED SOUND, PREMIUM AUDITORIUMS and DOUBLE & TRIPLE LIGHT THROWS ONTO THE SCREEN.
When you see a movie in any of these types of auditoriums, in regular 2D or 3D, you will experience a presentation that will blow you away in comparison to seeing a film in traditional 2D.
The PDX experience can take on two forms: 2D and 3D. Most of the time, you might see the 3D option, but we will also feature 2D films there, too. The PDX auditorium is typically larger than any other auditorium in the building. Why? Well, that screen is curved and is larger than any other screen in the building. In order to give you maximum light bounce we must use a very large curved screen to manipulate the light. Next, we have chosen projectors (and yes, there is more than one) that define and exceed the current technology standards in the industry. We use our exclusive installation process to deliver a picture on the screen that is so crisp, you may actually think you are starring in the movie yourself.
What is PDX?
PDX or Premium Digital Experience is the STONE THEATRES brand of large-format premium auditoriums. So instead of buying equipment and the ability to use the brand names from one of the above from the respective companies, we worked with the technology providers on our own to build the exact same experience under our own brand name.
How to learn more about PDX?
Go see it for yourself! Seriously. We can use about a million adjectives to describe the differences in PDX and other systems but until you see it for yourself, you just won't know.
Where do you have PDX?
Sun Valley 14 in Indian Trail, NC, Park West 14 in Morrisville, NC and The Pointe 14 in Wilmington, NC are currently the only locations with this technology. All new locations under construction are slated to have at least one auditorium installed. We may also build onto existing theatre sites as approved.
What about sound?
Prepare to be blown away. The 7.1 Surround Digital System and DOLBY 7.1 Systems are the best in the marketplace, and specific placement of speakers, along with careful calibration techniques, makes any seat in the house an instant rocket ship. These speakers will pin you to your seat and fully immerse you into the experience. Side-by-side comparisons are very telling of the difference you will feel watching a film in PDX over any traditional movie house.
Sounds cool, so why didn't you make all auditoriums PDX?
We wish we could but not all films are able to run on this system. In order to bring as many film genres as we can to you, we need to be able to use alternative types of projection. Also, we find some films are simply meant to be seen in traditional 2D, just as often as they are meant to be seen in large-format PDX!
The PDX Auditorium exclusively at The Pointe 14 is DOLBY ATMOS. Dolby Atmos paves the way for creative storytelling, building full audio atmospheres that excite the senses and inspire emotion, advancing what audiences come to expect from cinema. Dolby Atmos delivers moving audio—sound that can be precisely placed and moved anywhere in three-dimensional space, including overhead. Dolby Atmos brings entertainment alive all around the audience in a powerfully immersive and emotive experience. More than 2,700 Dolby Atmos screens are installed or committed in more than 75 countries with over 500 exhibitor partners around the world. More than 650 Dolby Atmos titles have been announced globally.
4K Laser Projection
The PDX auditorium at The Pointe 14 features 4K Laser Projection for the sharpest image you can imagine. 3D is spectacular when shown on the laser projection system.
